Brown Must Go For Sake Of The Country
Prime Minister Gordon Brown should announce his resignation immediately following tonight’s decision by Cabinet minister James Purnell to quit.
That is the view of Prospective Independent MP for Wirral West, David Kirwan, who says the public will never forgive Mr Brown if he clings on to power.
David Kirwan, who became the first anti-sleaze Independent candidate when he announced his decision to stand two weeks ago, said tonight: “James Purnell’s decision to quit and publicly call on Mr Brown to go is the beginning of the end for the Prime Minister.
“He should do the honourable thing and resign immediately, clearing the way for a new Labour leader and Prime Minister.
“Within minutes of being elected Mr Brown’s successor should call a General Election and let the British people elect the candidates it wants as its MPs and next Government.
“The British people will never forgive Mr Brown should he attempt to cling on to power for a moment longer. Mr Purnell’s dramatic decision means the game is up for a Prime Minister on the run.”
