Labour Government Enters Last Desperate Days
PROSPECTIVE Independent MP David Kirwan today (June 3) predicted that Gordon Brown’s battered Government was entering its “final days” as the Labour Party prepared for a crushing defeat in this week’s local and Euro elections.
With Ministers including Home Secretary Jacqui Smith jumping ship, the Prime Minister is today desperately trying to prevent his Government sinking beyond trace.
The latest resignations from the Brown Government come as a new BBC survey reveals the shocking extent of the damage caused by the MPs’ Expenses Scandal.
A staggering 48 per cent of people polled believe half of our MPs are corrupt and just under 80 per cent no longer trust them to tell the truth.
Furthermore, 80 per cent of those surveyed believe the current Parliamentary system is in need of a major overhaul.
David Kirwan, who is standing as Prospective Independent MP for Wirral West, said: “This Government is now entering its final days. It is hard to see how Gordon Brown or any alternative leader should Brown decide to fall on his sword can stagger on for much longer.
“The public felt cheated when Tony Blair stood down and Gordon Brown was imposed on us as Prime Minister, but now more than ever voters want to be able to exercise their democratic right to choose their Government.
“The situation is now so parlous that the BBC’s political editor Nick Robinson was last night asking just how badly our whole democratic system has been damaged by the revelations of recent weeks.”
