David Kirwan Welcomes Poll Showing 8 In 10 Voters Want Cap On Immigration
PROSPECTIVE Independent MP for Wirral West David Kirwan today welcomed a new survey revealing that 8 in 10 voters want a cap on immigration.
The Ipsos Mori research for the Home Office found that 81 per cent of the public are worried about the prospect of the population reaching 70 million in 2028, as predicted by Whitehall. It is currently 61 million.
Almost 70 per cent of those polled went on to say that the Home Secretary Alan Johnson is out of touch with the mood of the public.
Some 76 per cent of people want to see net immigration – the number of migrants entering the country minus the number leaving – cut from the present level of 237,000 a year to less than 50,000.
Of that 76 per cent, 32 per cent would like to see a policy of “one in, one out” introduced, while 22 per cent want to see no immigration at all.
David Kirwan said today: “These findings highlight yet again how out of touch the Home Secretary and the Prime Minister are on the important issues concerning voters.
“Immigration has always been a debate most politicians have shied away from, but unless it is brought to the forefront there is a real danger that our population will reach unmanageable levels within a matter of years.
“I know from my own discussions on the doorstep in Wirral West that this is one of biggest concerns of voters and, unlike other politicians, it is an issue I am not afraid to raise.”

Spot on!
What is also of interest ,I am sure, is that in a recent poll approximately half of people in settled immigrant communities are also worried about the levels of immigration.
This is a numbers issue , not a race one.
