PROSPECTIVE Independent MP for Wirral West David Kirwan today hit out at Britain’s politicians for failing to learn the lessons of the Expenses Scandal.

David was the first Independent candidate to announce he was launching a bid for Parliament as a result of the scandal.

Now, four months on, he has launched an attack on politicians from the traditional parties for arrogantly failing to respond to the tide of anger which swept the country in May this year.

David said: “I, like every other hard working person in this country had hoped that our tired, discredited MPs would take on board the deep resentment felt by voters when news of the Expenses Scandal broke earlier this year.

“We had hoped that they would instinctively decide to clean up their acts and put in place serious, transparent reforms to ensure this could never happen again.

“Yet it is clear that the traditional parties never had any intention of changing their spots. That is why it is more important than ever that voters elect genuinely Independent candidates such as myself who are committed to reforming the way our Parliament is run.”

Today’s Daily Telegraph – the paper that first broke the Expenses Scandal – reveals that the story was leaked after serving soldiers moonlighting between tours of duty in Afghanistan were horrified to discover how much taxpayers’ money politicians were lavishing on themselves.

They were disgusted that while MPs milked the system for themselves, soldiers were dying on the battlefield because they did not have the best possible equipment.

David said: “Our elected politicians may think the public has forgotten about the Expenses Scandal, but the reality is that millions of voters are quietly waiting for their moment at the ballot box.

“Today, we discover that the Expenses Scandal and the wretched conflict in Afghanistan were intimately linked. They are also two seismic issues that none of our traditional parties have shown the wherewithal to tackle.

“Independents such as myself offer a genuine alternative – one I have no doubt the voters of Britain are only too ready to grasp as soon as Gordon Brown puts us all out of our misery and calls the election everyone except him wants.”
