About Me
Listen to David Kirwan’s biography
I am proud of the fact that I live and breathe this constituency.
For 40 years, I have been a solicitor working in the area, the last 18 of which as Senior Managing Partner of Kirwans Solicitors.
The firm, with offices in Moreton, Prenton and Liverpool, now employs around 100 people and is widely recognised as one of the leading law firms in the North West of England.
I am married to Julie and have two grown up sons. Many of you will know Julie as a result of her own local election campaigning in Upton.
During recent years, I have personally campaigned on behalf of Winnie Johnson, the mother of Moors Murder victim Keith Bennett whose body has never been found.
I have also represented a number of farmers in the region in complex legal battles against the Government which resulted from laws introduced in the aftermath of the Foot and Mouth disaster.
I am proud of my firm’s reputation as a campaigning practice, often willing to take on cases others shy away from.
I have brought the same attitude to my role as an Independent Councillor for Hoylake and Meols, regularly speaking out on issues you feel most strongly about.
The most recent example of this was the threatened closure of libraries and other cultural amenities in Wirral. Not only did I speak against this wholesale destruction within the council, I also launched the Judicial Review bid to stop the closures.
Previously, I have campaigned against the job losses at the Burton’s Factory, the chaotic plans to redevelop New Brighton and high profile mobile phone mast blunders.
I, along with my colleagues at Kirwans Solicitors, have raised many thousands of pounds for local causes in recent years. These have included Claire House, North West Cancer Research Fund, Barnardo’s and the NSPCC.
I was educated at Wallasey Grammar School and studied law at Liverpool University. I am a qualified pilot and have raced motorcycles at the famous Isle of Man TT.
